Origin: A Story through Song

Origin is a song and movement piece by Caroline Gauthier. Set in the garden of Eden, four women sing through the struggles of their own rebellion, heartbreak and rebirth. Capturing both the pain and beauty of coming of age through song and movement, Origin: A Story Through Song is a nearly ritualistic performance experience. The music and lyrics by Caroline Gauthier feature the naked voice, ranging from heart wrenching a cappella Blues to ethereal harmonies. An excerpt was first presented at the 2016 Shortstanding festival and a workshoped version was presented at the 2016 Montreal Fringe Festival. Caroline Gauthier is currently developping the piece further and hopes to produce a complete version of it within the coming year.

About the 2016 Shortstanding excerpt

A first excerpt of Origin was performed by Hannah Dorozio and Caroline Gauthier as a stand-alone piece in the Shortstanding Festival, in February 2016. It was warmly received by audiences and described by Angela Potvin of Montreal Rampage as “a song theatre piece about love and loss. It was beautiful in a way, and felt painfully intimate.” You can listen to an interview on CBC’s Homerun about the Shortstanding Festival and the workshop performance of Origin here:
